About the Role:The Family Service Worker is a vital member of the Child Protection Team, working to provide support and guidance to families in the areas of parenting, budgeting, life skills, and family preservation. This role requires flexibility and a commitment to working outside of regular working hours to meet the needs of families.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide individual or family support in areas such as parenting knowledge/skills, life skills, assessing safety risk factors, budgeting skills/money management, conflict resolution, and building self-esteem.
- Assist clients in developing their own community/family-based support network.
- Connect clients with available community resources.
- Work with parents to develop improved skills regarding child care, coping skills, household maintenance, and other relevant life skills.
- Facilitate and supervise family visits.
- Communicate and confer with Child Protection Social Workers and foster care providers.
- Review caseload with the Supervisor and Child Protection Social Workers on a regular basis to review progress and make necessary adjustments to the case plan.
- Provide support to foster caregivers and children-in-care.
- Transport clients, infants, children, and youth in care.
- Provide evidence in Court proceedings under the Child Protection Act.
- Facilitate group work.
- Complete daily case notes and maintain client files on ISM.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations. A strong understanding of child development and family dynamics is essential, as is the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
