Responsibilities of an Automotive Service Advisor

The role of an Automotive Service Advisor encompasses various responsibilities that may differ based on the specific automotive repair facility. Key responsibilities typically include:

  • Providing estimates for the costs and duration of a diverse range of vehicle repairs
  • Greeting clients and understanding their automotive needs
  • Responding to customer inquiries, whether in person or via telephone
  • Creating repair estimates by considering the costs of materials, supplies, and labor
  • Documenting repair orders by detailing the vehicle's issues or symptoms
  • Connecting clients with the appropriate automotive technician
  • Conducting test drives to ensure the vehicle has been repaired to the client's satisfaction
  • Maintaining detailed automotive records by tracking issues and corrective measures taken

To excel in this position, Automotive Service Advisors should possess a blend of empathy and knowledge regarding the automotive industry and the services offered by their employer. Important skills include:

  • Excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal
  • Strong customer service aptitude to effectively address client complaints and inquiries
  • Critical thinking, organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with digital technology, including internet usage and relevant software

Experience Requirements

Candidates should ideally have a minimum of two years of experience within the automotive sector. Successful Automotive Service Advisors often have experience in coordinating various departments and delivering exceptional customer service. A solid understanding of mechanical and automotive terminology is essential. Candidates who have completed industry-sponsored training programs will possess practical experience and be well-prepared to begin their career as a Service Advisor.

Education and Training Requirements

A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is generally required. Any relevant education that equips Service Advisors with essential skills such as communication, time management, and the ability to follow directions is advantageous. Candidates with additional professional certifications, trade experience, or associate degrees in the automotive field may be preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Compensation: $19.00-$28.00 per hour
