Job Title: Registered Practical Nurse - Forensic Secure Unit

We are seeking a part-time, permanent Registered Practical Nurse to join our team in the Forensic Secure Unit B (FSUB) at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). As a member of our inter-professional team, you will provide client-centered psychiatric and general nursing care, ensuring the security and safety of the client care environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide ongoing assessments, develop, implement, and evaluate interprofessional plans of client care for clients with mental illness and under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Review Board (ORB).
  • Collaborate with the primary nurse to perform assessments, develop, implement, and evaluate client care plans.
  • Work with patients from diverse backgrounds, contribute to program development, and provide education support and supervision to students.
  • Liaise with other services in the Forensic Division and community agencies to coordinate care for clients.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor risk management plans and ensure compliance with the ORB disposition.
Requirements:
  • Member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate.
  • Medication administration certification or completion of an RPN education preparation program that includes medication administration.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing, addiction issues, and risk assessments.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Psychiatric nursing experience with individuals with mental illness and/or addictions.
  • Understanding of how to develop and implement forensic risk assessment plans.
  • Fundamental understanding of the forensic legal and health systems.

This is a 12-hour shift rotation position working days, evenings, and nights, as well as weekend work. The successful candidate will be a self-directed team player who is highly organized and has the communication and interpersonal skills to work within an inter-professional collaborative team environment.
