Registered Nurse (RN), Oncology Clinic

As a vital member of the healthcare team at PHSA, the Registered Nurse is dedicated to delivering comprehensive nursing care to patients navigating their cancer journey. This role encompasses a range of responsibilities including assessment, intervention, symptom management, treatment coordination, and patient education, all aligned with established healthcare standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct nursing care to oncology patients by conducting thorough assessments, reviewing medical histories, and formulating individualized care plans that consider the unique psychosocial and cultural needs of each patient.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members to create and adjust treatment plans based on ongoing evaluations of patient progress.
  • Administer prescribed medications, blood products, and IV fluids, while monitoring patient responses and determining when to escalate care to a physician.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, documenting health histories, nursing assessments, and educational interactions to ensure continuity of care.
  • Facilitate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Guide patients in understanding their care plans and refer them to additional healthcare resources as necessary.
  • Uphold a safe and supportive environment for patients and staff by adhering to safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited Nursing program with active registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Current CPR certification (Level C).
  • At least one year of relevant clinical experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong clinical knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge effectively in practice.
  • Proficiency in utilizing clinical technology to enhance patient care.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize patient care efficiently.
  • Physical capability to perform the duties required of the position.
  • Commitment to understanding and promoting Indigenous cultural safety and reconciliation efforts.
