Facilities and Energy Optimization Manager

New Brunswick Liquor Co

Position Overview

New Brunswick Liquor Co is in search of a Facilities and Energy Optimization Manager to ensure the efficient, safe, and economical functioning of our central warehouse, corporate headquarters, and retail locations throughout the province. Reporting directly to the Director of Property Management, this role involves the creation and execution of a comprehensive multi-year strategy focused on facilities and energy optimization, serving as a key resource for initiatives aimed at reducing maintenance expenses, enhancing asset longevity, and minimizing energy usage across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

In this strategic role, you will contribute to the formulation of the annual Facilities Plan and long-term facilities strategy, particularly regarding the interplay between our facilities and their energy consumption. You will support our efficiency initiatives by guiding the business in integrating sustainability into their operations, ensuring optimal energy utilization across all spaces.

You will lead our Facilities team, which includes both unionized and non-unionized personnel, tasked with preventative and responsive maintenance of our facilities and assets. This encompasses building structures, HVAC systems, electrical and plumbing systems, material handling equipment, vehicles, office environments, and emergency response protocols. You will celebrate both major and minor achievements to foster a culture of energy efficiency within the organization.

Additional Duties Include

  • Implementing facility management best practices, including adherence to building codes, company standards, and industry benchmarks.
  • Managing maintenance contracts and vendor service agreements.
  • Overseeing building automation systems in assigned properties where applicable.
  • Advancing the Facilities Asset Management Policy and Strategy to create robust short and long-term asset lifecycle management plans.
  • Communicating, training, and monitoring the facilities emergency response program.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and evaluating energy usage data, providing recommendations for enhancements.
  • Researching and applying for energy efficiency programs and incentives.
  • Developing communications and reports to disseminate information regarding asset lifecycle, capital and operational expenditures, energy reduction, and sustainability initiatives to both internal and external stakeholders.

Candidate Profile

As a leader, you exemplify a role model who inspires, motivates, and guides your team towards achieving their objectives while recognizing their contributions across the organization. You possess the ability to collaborate across various departments to drive results, as you articulate the vision, establish goals, and ensure accountability.

You have a strong commitment to sustainability and possess extensive knowledge of processes and strategies aimed at reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions. Your experience encompasses policies and strategies that yield measurable, long-term impacts on assets, facilities, and energy utilization. You are naturally inquisitive, continuously exploring and assessing new technologies for potential implementation.

Qualifications for Success

  • Degree or diploma in Engineering, Facilities Management, Technology, or a related field (CET or P.Eng designation is an asset).
  • Certified Energy Manager certification or equivalent (or a willingness to obtain certification).
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial building codes, regulations, and procedures related to building maintenance, HVAC, electrical, plumbing systems, structural integrity, signage, and overall safe and sustainable facility operations.
  • Exceptional research and data analysis skills to identify trends, extract key insights, and formulate data-driven recommendations.
  • Strong project management, communication, budgeting, facilitation, and organizational skills to effectively plan, manage, and deliver multiple priorities on time and within budget.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with commercial energy efficiency initiatives and processes, including green technologies, emissions reduction, and electricity consumption reduction.
  • Bilingualism in both official languages is considered an asset.
