About the Opportunity

Nova Scotia Health Authority is inviting expressions of interest for the position of Specialty Site Lead at Colchester East Hants Health Centre within the Northern Zone. The Specialty Site Lead (W&CH) is responsible to the Zone Medical Executive Director and collaborates with local physicians to uphold a high standard of patient care by the medical staff, adhering to legal requirements, Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, as well as licensing and accreditation standards. This role integrates a clinician's perspective into all relevant operational and administrative matters, with a strong emphasis on quality and patient safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensures compliance of the medical staff with the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the NSHA;
  • Communicates issues and perspectives of Department Medical Staff to the Zone Executive Director and/or Zone Department Head for consideration and resolution;
  • Acts as Physician Lead for Emergency Preparedness initiatives;
  • Assists in managing site overcapacity challenges from the Department's viewpoint, serving as the point of contact for Department medical staff;
  • Maintains service continuity through effective Department scheduling practices, including establishing an equitable on-call schedule, managing vacation approvals, and utilizing locums;
  • Chairs regular departmental meetings and participates in other committee meetings as required or assigned by the Zone Medical Executive Director or Zone Department Head;
  • Engages in monitoring standards, quality, and resource utilization within the Department in the zone, including necessary reporting and auditing;
  • Contributes to clinical services planning for the Department;
  • Participates in fostering a respectful workplace in collaboration with the relevant Department Head;
  • Involved in recruitment and retention activities for the Department, including maintaining an up-to-date roster of Department medical staff;
  • Participates in onboarding processes for new hires in conjunction with the Department Head;
  • Engages in leadership development and demonstrates a commitment to lifelong learning and enhancement of leadership skills;
  • Leads the incident review process for the site, collaborating with Quality and Patient Safety representatives, including all necessary family meetings.
Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must possess an MD license in Nova Scotia and be privileged with Nova Scotia Health. Evidence of ongoing leadership training is required.

Compensation Structure

Compensation ranges from $5,000 to $10,000, with individual compensation determined based on prior experience.
