Delta, known for its sunny climate, is home to three distinct communities. The City of Delta is seeking committed individuals to contribute to our mission of excellence in public service.

This role involves aquatic responsibilities in both lifeguarding and instructional capacities at various aquatic facilities. The individual in this position will undertake a range of operational, instructional, lifeguarding, maintenance, and custodial tasks to facilitate recreational and educational aquatic programs for diverse age groups. A Lifeguard/Instructor II executes these responsibilities following established protocols, demonstrating professionalism and assertiveness when interacting with patrons of all ages. More complex issues will be escalated to a supervisor who will evaluate performance based on the effectiveness of aquatic programs and adherence to established guidelines.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Thorough understanding of lifesaving techniques, artificial respiration, and first aid procedures.
  • Proficient in teaching methodologies and group leadership strategies focused on water safety and aquatic skill development.
  • Familiarity with pool chemistry, filtration systems, chlorination processes, heating mechanisms, and related equipment.
  • Capability to demonstrate proficient aquatic skills and instruct others according to recognized standards.
  • Ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships with officials, colleagues, and patrons.
  • Competence in documenting and managing records pertinent to the role.

Required Qualifications

  • National Lifeguard Award – Pool Option (NL)
  • Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certification
  • Current Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation Level C (CPR C)
  • Minimum age requirement of sixteen (16) years.
  • Completion of Grade 10 or an equivalent combination of training and experience is advantageous.
