Risk Management Specialist

Join Sun Life Canada's Risk Management Centre of Excellence as a Manager, Operational Risk, and play a key role in supporting the company's Client for Life goals.
Main Accountabilities:- Assess risk and control effectiveness within the Retail Advice and Solutions (RAS) portfolio, identifying opportunities to improve risk management.
- Lead risk assessments to measure risk exposures, identify internal control weaknesses, and improve the control environment.
- Lead the roll-out of new/changed risk and compliance requirements, supporting business partners in designing and maintaining programs to meet these requirements.
- Provide risk consulting expertise and lead risk reviews for key business projects, digital initiatives, and process changes.
- Develop recommendations on effective control design and operational risk management best practices.
- Present operational risk findings and recommendations at monthly Risk Steering Committees.
- Provide insightful and valuable operational risk analysis and reporting to the risk leadership team and the business.
- Maintain strong/effective working relationships with all business partners.
- Support reviews conducted by Internal Audit and Compliance as well as external auditors and regulators.
- Lead and/or coach Operational Risk Consultant(s) assigned to portfolio.
- Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in risk management, preferably within the security dealer or financial service industry.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to security dealer.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, influencing stakeholders.
- Professional certifications such as PRM (Professional Risk Manager), CSI (Canadian Securities Courses).
- Ability to distill complex requirements without oversimplifying or missing critical components.
- Proactive and highly motivated individual who will take initiative and manage unstructured activities.
- Knowledge of risk management techniques, including risk assessment, risk monitoring, control design, and control effectiveness assessment.
- Portfolio/program management experience with strong organization skills and the ability to prioritize many competing demands.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
