We are currently seeking an HSE Co-op to contribute to our operations. This role is designed for individuals who are eager to gain practical experience in the field of health, safety, and environmental management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update the training matrix, develop a monthly training agenda, and assist supervisors in delivering training sessions.
  • Oversee the updates of employee STOP cards and ensure compliance with Field Level Risk Assessments.
  • Collaborate with plant personnel on health, safety, and environmental matters.
  • Monitor contractor activities during on-site projects to ensure adherence to health and safety regulations.
  • Review daily Work Permits as necessary.
  • Engage in daily discussions with the site HSE Specialist to ensure alignment on safety practices.
  • Support the updating and monitoring of Corporate and Site Pandemic protocols.
  • Manage the documentation and record-keeping of HSE testing.
  • Conduct regular inspections of safety equipment, including eyewash stations and showers.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the HSE Specialist, such as updating WHMIS (GHS) inventories and site safety maps.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Enrollment as a 3rd or 4th year student in a recognized Co-op program in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Science.
  • A strong passion for health and safety and/or environmental studies.
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical abilities.
  • Proficient communication skills, both written and verbal, along with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Capability to prioritize tasks and work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong technical writing skills for creating documents suitable for adult learners.
  • A dedicated commitment to health, safety, and environmental stewardship.

Experience:

  • Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental legislation is advantageous.
  • Previous experience in an industrial manufacturing setting is beneficial.
  • Ability to interpret safety and environmental regulations and engineering documentation.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SharePoint, and similar tools.
  • Candidates should possess their own means of transportation as travel may be necessary.

Work Schedule:

The work hours will primarily be Monday through Friday, totaling 40 hours per week during the day shift.
