POSITION: Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Co-op
Company Overview:
IKO Industries Ltd. stands as a prominent figure in the production of roofing and construction materials. As a Canadian-owned enterprise with a global presence, IKO has established a legacy of excellence in the roofing sector. Our foundation is built on the principles of quality, integrity, and trust, which we uphold by employing individuals who share these values.
Currently, we are seeking an HSE Co-op (8-month or 12-month contract) to contribute to our operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in maintaining an updated training matrix, develop a monthly training agenda, and provide support to supervisors in delivering training sessions.
- Update compliance records for employee STOP cards and Field Level Risk Assessments.
- Collaborate with plant personnel on health, safety, and environmental matters.
- Support the oversight of contractors and activities during on-site projects to ensure adherence to health and safety regulations.
- Review daily Work Permits as necessary.
- Engage in daily meetings with the site HSE Specialist for updates and coordination.
- Aid in the revision and monitoring of Corporate and Site Pandemic procedures.
- Manage the printing and documentation of HSE testing and maintain accurate records.
- Conduct weekly and monthly inspections of safety equipment.
- Perform additional site-related tasks as assigned by the HSE Specialist.
Qualifications, Skills and Education:
- Enrollment as a 3rd or 4th year student in a recognized post-secondary Co-op education program in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Science.
- A strong passion for health and safety or environmental studies.
- Exceptional organizational and analytical abilities.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with interpersonal capabilities.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently within a team environment.
- Proficient technical writing skills to create documents suitable for adult learners.
- A dedicated commitment to Health and Safety and Environmental practices.
Experience:
- Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental legislation is advantageous.
- Previous experience in an industrial manufacturing setting is beneficial.
- Capability to interpret safety and environmental regulations and engineering documentation.
- Proficient in using tools such as MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SharePoint, etc.
- Candidates should possess their own means of transportation as travel may be necessary.
Hours/ Days / Schedule
The work schedule will primarily consist of Monday through Friday, totaling 40 hours per week during day shifts.
