Corporate Accountant Job Description

The Corporate Accountant plays a pivotal role in driving financial excellence at Metrie. This key position is responsible for overseeing accounting, reporting, and analysis of financial data to inform business decisions and drive growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the consolidation process for multiple entities, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare and review various monthly and consolidation journal entries, adhering to ASPE guidelines and established timelines.
  • Ensure the integrity of the general ledger through thorough account reconciliations and review.
  • Manage intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and eliminations to ensure accurate consolidated financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with finance and cross-functional teams to gather financial data, resolve discrepancies, and address accounting issues.
  • Conduct ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting to support management decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Provide cash flow analysis and forecasting, as well as manage bank transactional relationships.
  • Prepare budgeting documents and analyze monthly financial results against budgets and forecasts.
  • Support the year-end audit process by responding to auditor inquiries and preparing working papers and supporting schedules.
  • Coordinate and support regulatory audits, including sales and use tax, property tax, and federal and state tax audits.
  • Provide accounting support for new acquisitions and ensure proper accounting of acquisitions upon consolidation.
  • Coordinate valuations with external service providers to ensure timely reports and analysis.
  • Develop training and process documentation for the Finance team.
  • Provide mentorship and direction to Corporate and Junior Accountants to ensure high-quality work within the CR team.
  • Contribute to a high-performing, highly engaged, and diverse Corporate Reporting team.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Accounting, or related field.
  • CA, CGA, or CMA designation or other recognized accounting certification.
  • 5-7 years of previous accounting experience, preferably in a fast-paced accounting team.
  • Experience leading or mentoring accounting professionals, managing quality and service in a finance team, or preparing Canadian and/or US tax returns.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Excel and solid skills in MS Office.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and comfort with multiple deadlines.
  • Strong desire to learn new skills, improve processes, and continually develop existing skills and strengths.
