Position Summary

The Licensed Tradesperson is responsible for the upkeep, diagnostics, testing, and repair of material handling equipment (MHE) such as conveyors, gearboxes, rollers, drive units, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic systems. The goal is to ensure that all equipment operates efficiently with minimal downtime while adhering to health and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, and testing of Parcel Sortation Systems and related components.
  • Deliver precise and timely written reports regarding safety, operational, and maintenance activities.
  • Execute non-structural welding tasks as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned.
Additional DutiesQualifications

Completion of specialized courses typically offered in community or recognized technical colleges, usually requiring about three academic years.
For electrician roles, a Licensed Industrial Electrician Certificate (442A) is mandatory.
For millwright roles, a Licensed Industrial Millwright Certificate (433A) is essential.

Experience Requirements
  • Demonstrated mechanical knowledge with a minimum of 2 years' experience in maintaining material handling equipment or industrial machinery.
  • Enrollment in an Apprenticeship Program with a registered college, having successfully completed all level 1 and 2 courses in the mechanical techniques – Industrial Millwright program.
  • Must successfully pass both a written and practical examination to be considered. Eligibility to register as a millwright apprentice with the Ministry of Labour and Skill Development is required.
  • Proficient mechanical troubleshooting skills, including but not limited to belts, bearings, pulleys, drives, and gear motors.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and safe work practices.
  • Exemplify and consistently demonstrate core competencies such as communication, innovation, change management, relationship building, and leadership.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in welding, fitting, and/or machine shop work is an asset.
  • Physical requirements include but are not limited to:
    Lifting (50 to 70 pounds), bending, reaching, climbing, walking, crawling, standing, sitting, climbing stairs, speaking, sight, and/or hearing to perform job duties.
