About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Student Services Counsellor to join our team at Aitchison College of Technology & Health Sciences Inc. As a key member of our student support services, you will play a vital role in providing guidance and support to our students, helping them to achieve their academic and personal goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise teaching assistants and provide guidance on educational, career, and vocational issues
  • Counsel students on personal and social issues, and consult with teachers, parents, administrators, and community agencies
  • Co-ordinate the provision of counselling and information services to students, parents, and teachers
  • Administer and interpret standardized intelligence, aptitude, and interest tests, and refer students to other specialized services when required
  • Participate in staff meetings, educational conferences, and workshops, and develop guidance and counselling programs
  • Arrange for recruitment of graduating students by employers, supervise peer counselling programs, and supervise field experience for graduate students in clinical and counselling areas
  • Visit colleges and secondary schools to provide academic information to prospective students, their parents, and educational institutions, and prepare and deliver presentations at conferences, workshops, and symposia
Requirements
  • 2 years to less than 3 years of experience in a related field
  • Basic security clearance
  • Ability to work under pressure, with attention to detail, and a combination of sitting, standing, and walking
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, client focus, efficient interpersonal skills, initiative, judgement, and reliability
  • Participation in a government or community program or initiative that supports newcomers and/or refugees, youth employment, Veterans, Indigenous people, and visible minorities
