We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Student Services Counsellor to join our team at Aitchison College of Technology & Health Sciences Inc. As a key member of our student support services, you will play a vital role in providing guidance and support to our students, helping them to achieve their academic and personal goals.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise teaching assistants and provide guidance on educational, career, and vocational issues
- Counsel students on personal and social matters, and consult with teachers, parents, administrators, and community agencies
- Co-ordinate the provision of counselling and information services to students, parents, and teachers
- Administer and interpret standardized intelligence, aptitude, and interest tests, and refer students to other specialized services when required
- Participate in staff meetings, educational conferences, and workshops, and develop guidance and counselling programs
- Arrange for recruitment of graduating students by employers, supervise peer counselling programs, and visit colleges and secondary schools to provide academic information
- Prepare and deliver presentations at conferences, workshops, and symposia, and supervise field experience for graduate students in clinical and counselling areas
- 2 years to less than 3 years of experience in a related field
- Basic security clearance
- Ability to work under pressure, with attention to detail, and a combination of sitting, standing, and walking
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, client focus, efficient interpersonal skills, and judgement
- Initiative, organized, and reliable, with a client focus and excellent communication skills
- Participation in a government or community program or initiative that supports newcomers and/or refugees
- Recruitment of newcomers and/or refugees who were displaced by a conflict or a natural disaster
- Provides diversity and cross-cultural trainings to create a welcoming work environment for newcomers and/or refugees
- Participation in a government or community program or initiative that supports youth employment
- Participation in a government or community program or initiative that supports Veterans
- Participation in a government or community program or initiative that supports Indigenous people
- Offers mentorship, coaching, and/or networking opportunities for Indigenous workers
- Develops and maintains relationships with indigenous communities, indigenous-owned businesses, and organizations
- Provides cultural competency training and/or awareness training to all employees to create a welcoming work environment for Indigenous workers
- Facilitates access to Elders who can offer support and guidance to Indigenous workers
- Participation in a government or community program or initiative that supports mature workers
- Participation in a government or community program or initiative that supports members of visible minorities
- Applies hiring policies that discourage discrimination against members of visible minorities
- Offers mentorship programs that pair members of visible minorities with experienced employees
