Job Summary:

Lakeridge Health is seeking a skilled Laboratory Assistant Technician to join our team. As a Laboratory Assistant Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect blood samples from patients, following established procedures and protocols.
  • Perform ECGs and other laboratory tests as required.
  • Ensure quality control and maintenance of laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Receive and prepare specimens for analysis, including booking appointments and registering patients.
  • Participate in the student training program and provide guidance and support as needed.
  • Immediately report any unusual incidents or safety concerns to management.
  • Follow established safety and infection control procedures at all times.

Requirements:

  • Medical Laboratory Assistant certificate from a recognized training facility.
  • MLPAO (OSMT) and/or CSMLS Laboratory Assistant certification.
  • Recent experience in a central receiving role and the procedures involved in this area.
  • Proven previous Laboratory Assistant, phlebotomy, and ECG experience in a hospital or medical laboratory setting.
  • Effective organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Knowledge of infection control principles and practices.
  • Physical ability to perform duties of lifting, bending, sitting, and prolonged standing and walking.

Working Conditions:

  • Work in a high-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and establish effective working relationships.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft computer programs and keyboarding experience.
  • Experience with pneumatic tube transport systems, an asset.
  • Current Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Certification, preferred.
