Position Overview: Addiction Recovery Specialist

The Addiction Recovery Specialist plays a crucial role in the Addictions Program, focusing on delivering holistic support to individuals affected by substance use and mental health challenges. This position emphasizes community-oriented and virtual care, aiming to enhance the quality of life and promote recovery from addiction and mental health disorders.

Compensation: $57,928 – $67,119

Work Schedule: 35 hours per week

The Canadian Mental Health Association Toronto Branch is a premier community mental health organization dedicated to providing accessible and high-quality care to residents. Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate group therapy sessions focused on addiction recovery and therapeutic skill development.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of clients’ psychosocial backgrounds, mental health, substance use issues, and overall health.
  • Offer individualized addiction support, including counseling, harm reduction strategies, and referrals to appropriate services.
  • Provide expert consultation to colleagues regarding addiction-related matters and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Engage in addiction-related initiatives within the organization, including nicotine replacement therapy and educational workshops.
  • Foster a collaborative and respectful working relationship with clients and team members.
  • Deliver resources, information, and advocacy to clients in need.
  • Implement client-centered engagement strategies and crisis intervention techniques.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Social Science, or related field with specialized training in addictions.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in community mental health and addiction services.
  • Strong understanding of recovery-oriented practices and their application for individuals with mental health and addiction issues.
  • Knowledge of harm reduction principles, addiction cycles, and various care approaches for substance users.
  • Familiarity with Trauma-Informed Care and recovery-focused methodologies.
  • Ability to provide case management support as needed.
  • Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong organizational abilities and adaptability to diverse community needs.
  • Commitment to anti-oppressive practices and the ability to engage with various communities.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle are essential.
