We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Indigenous Policy Strategist to join our team at the City of Calgary. As a key member of our Planning and Development Services department, you will play a critical role in advancing our Truth & Reconciliation actions, Indigenous Policy, and White Goose Flying report.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research and analysis to support our Indigenous program, including data collection and investigation.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities and rightsholders, ensuring culturally appropriate engagement activities.
  • Provide project management support for our Indigenous program, including scheduling, meetings, and events.
  • Offer Indigenous subject matter expertise to our staff and leadership on policy research, development, and analysis.
Requirements
  • A master's degree in Indigenous Studies or a related field, with at least 1 year of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in building and maintaining relationships with Indigenous communities, including rural and urban areas, and Traditional Knowledge Keepers.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous history, culture, ceremony, and languages relevant to the Treaty 7 region.
  • Experience in city, community, regional, or transportation planning policy and processes, land development, and approvals.
