Job Title: Indigenous Policy Strategist

**About the Role**

We are seeking an experienced Indigenous Policy Strategist to join our team at the City of Calgary. As a key member of our Planning and Development Services department, you will play a critical role in advancing our Truth & Reconciliation actions, Indigenous Policy, and White Goose Flying report.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Conduct research, investigations, data collection, and analysis to support the Indigenous program in the PDS department.
  • Develop and coordinate relationships and guide culturally appropriate engagement activities between PDS staff and Indigenous rightsholders.
  • Provide project management support to PDS's Indigenous program, including scheduling, meetings, and events, managing and coordinating schedules, taking meeting minutes, maintaining records, and documenting risks.
  • Provide Indigenous subject matter expertise to PDS staff and leadership in relation to policy research and development, analysis, briefings, reports, and engagement opportunities.

**Qualifications**

  • A master's degree in Indigenous Studies and at least 1 year of relevant work experience OR;
  • A master's degree in a related field and at least 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in building and maintaining relationships and collaboration with Indigenous communities, both rural and urban, and Traditional Knowledge Keepers is required.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous history, culture, ceremony, and languages relevant to the Treaty 7 region is required.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in any of city, community, regional, or transportation planning policy and processes, land development and approvals, climate change adaptation and mitigation, municipal infrastructure, environmental management, and sustainability will be an asset.
  • Knowledge of community and/or social or economic development, or archaeological and historical assessment protocols will also be an asset.
  • To be successful in the role, you must possess tact and diplomacy, political acumen, relationship management skills, and strong communication skills.

**Working Conditions**

Mainly an office environment with external meetings and public engagement sessions.
