SUMMARY:
The Buyer/Material Planner plays a crucial role in strategizing and overseeing inventory levels to fulfill production needs and customer expectations.
This position involves assessing and interpreting supplier proposals, negotiating costs, nurturing vendor relationships, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and suppliers to guarantee prompt material delivery.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/ Certification:
- Post Secondary Diploma or bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management or a related discipline.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in a comparable position.
- Background in the Heavy Equipment/Industrial sector is advantageous.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Proficient in inventory management software and MS Office Suite.
Skills:
- In-depth understanding of inventory management and procurement methodologies.
- Exceptional negotiation and relationship management capabilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- High level of planning, analytical thinking, attention to detail, and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Self-driven, adept problem solver, resourceful, and demonstrates sound decision-making.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and procure raw materials, components, and services to meet production and customer demands by forecasting needs, analyzing material requirements, and implementing inventory management strategies to avert shortages and surpluses.
- Maintain precise inventory records, ensuring alignment with physical stock, and manage inventory turnover while addressing slow-moving or surplus items.
- Establish appropriate procurement and replenishment strategies for Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) and shop supplies.
Initiate and analyze Requests for Quotations with existing preferred suppliers when applicable. - Evaluate and analyze supplier proposals, negotiate pricing, and maintain vendor relationships while assessing supplier performance regarding quality, cost, and delivery timelines.
- Foster and sustain positive relationships with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely material delivery.
- Responsible for daily tracking, creating, and converting purchase requisitions into invoices for appropriate vendors using the JDE - ERP system. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams for product development and production planning.
- Assist in planning and executing in-house manufactured work orders and scheduling painted parts as per requirements.
- Support cycle counts and physical inventory processes.
- Coordinate timely returns of rejected materials and ensure adherence to proper credit processes.
- Resolve discrepancies in purchase order acknowledgments with suppliers.
- Address supplier delivery issues contributing to production shortages.
- Perform additional duties, assignments, and special projects as required.
