Job Summary

IWK Health Centre is a leading health sciences centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, providing tertiary and primary care to two million children, youth, adults, and families each year across the Atlantic region. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in our Family Newborn Care Unit, you will be an integral part of an interdisciplinary care team, collaborating on the delivery of care to meet the needs of patients/families.

About the Role

In this dynamic role, you will provide care independently to patients/families who have well-defined and established care needs. You will be responsible and accountable to the public for your own practice according to the standards defined by the Nova Scotia College of Nursing, Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics and Standards, and policies and procedures of IWK Health Centre.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients' needs and develop nursing care plans in collaboration with RNs and other healthcare professionals.
  • Provide practical nursing theory in the assessment of patients, collaboration in the development of the nursing care plan, implementation of the care plan, and ongoing evaluation of the patient.
  • Work in consultation with RN/LPN colleagues and other members of the interdisciplinary team to meet the needs of more complex patients/clients.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an approved Practical Nurse Diploma Program.
  • Licensed, or eligible to be licensed, with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN).
  • Successful completion of pharmacology and health assessment courses.
  • Recent clinical experience that includes administration of medication and health assessments.
  • NRP Certification an asset.
  • Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support Level (BLS) Program within the last 12 months.
