Position Overview:

The Recreation and Wellness Support Specialist will play a vital role in evaluating, designing, executing, and assessing therapeutic recreation and restorative activities tailored to the needs of residents within a collaborative healthcare team.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit core values and competencies in all interactions
  • Assist residents with specific exercise regimens or restorative activities
  • Develop and implement engaging programs that reflect residents' interests
  • Create detailed descriptions and guidelines for recreational programs
  • Guide students during their practical placements
  • Promote resident involvement in various activities
  • Contribute to care assessments and evaluations
  • Engage with volunteers and community partners
  • Oversee volunteers during program execution
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records
  • Participate in quality improvement committees

Essential Qualifications:

  • Completion of secondary education or equivalent
  • Relevant post-secondary diploma or degree
  • Minimum of one year experience in a healthcare activation role
  • Excellent communication and computer proficiency

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Training in Gentle Persuasive Approach and Gerontology is advantageous
  • Experience working with individuals with Alzheimer's and dementia is a plus

Required Certifications:

  • Safe Food Handling Certificate
  • Restorative Care Education Certificate
  • Membership in TRO or CTRA is beneficial
  • Smart Serve Certification is a plus

Work Environment:

  • Primarily indoor work setting
  • Flexible scheduling, including weekends and holidays

Physical Requirements:

  • Annual flu vaccination and TB screening required
  • Capability to lift and transport specified weights

Compensation:

This position offers a permanent casual role with 15% in lieu of benefits and 4% vacation pay in accordance with the UNIFOR RVG collective agreement.
