The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is looking for dedicated individuals to join our team as permanent casual Recreation and Wellness Support Specialists.
Position Overview:
The Recreation and Wellness Support Specialist will play a vital role in evaluating, designing, executing, and assessing therapeutic recreation and restorative activities tailored to the needs of residents within a collaborative healthcare team.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Exhibit core values and competencies in all interactions
- Assist residents with specific exercise regimens or restorative activities
- Develop and implement engaging programs that reflect residents' interests
- Create detailed descriptions and guidelines for recreational programs
- Guide students during their practical placements
- Promote resident involvement in various activities
- Contribute to care assessments and evaluations
- Engage with volunteers and community partners
- Oversee volunteers during program execution
- Maintain accurate documentation and records
- Participate in quality improvement committees
Essential Qualifications:
- Completion of secondary education or equivalent
- Relevant post-secondary diploma or degree
- Minimum of one year experience in a healthcare activation role
- Excellent communication and computer proficiency
Preferred Qualifications:
- Training in Gentle Persuasive Approach and Gerontology is advantageous
- Experience working with individuals with Alzheimer's and dementia is a plus
Required Certifications:
- Safe Food Handling Certificate
- Restorative Care Education Certificate
- Membership in TRO or CTRA is beneficial
- Smart Serve Certification is a plus
Work Environment:
- Primarily indoor work setting
- Flexible scheduling, including weekends and holidays
Physical Requirements:
- Annual flu vaccination and TB screening required
- Capability to lift and transport specified weights
Compensation:
This position offers a permanent casual role with 15% in lieu of benefits and 4% vacation pay in accordance with the UNIFOR RVG collective agreement.
