We collaborate closely with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and other healthcare professionals, providing essential services on a referral basis in various settings.

Position Overview: Low Vision Rehabilitation Specialist

Employment Type: Full-time, Contract

Compensation: Competitive salary

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct comprehensive functional low vision assessments using specialized evaluation tools.
  2. Instruct clients on maximizing their remaining vision.
  3. Recommend and provide training on the use of optical and non-optical aids.
  4. Educate clients about their eye conditions and overall vision health.
  5. Facilitate referrals to internal and external services as needed.
  6. Address public inquiries regarding vision health and available services.
  7. Engage in research related to new optical aids and advancements in eye care.
  8. Participate in professional development opportunities and conferences.
  9. Deliver educational seminars and workshops on low vision services to community organizations and healthcare professionals.
  10. Interpret medical information relevant to vision rehabilitation.
  11. Perform administrative tasks, including documentation of assessments and client interactions.
Relationship Management:
  1. Build and maintain relationships with community rehabilitation teams, agencies, and healthcare providers.
  2. Support individuals and families in adjusting to vision loss.
  3. Contribute to multi-disciplinary team meetings.
  4. Promote awareness of vision health issues through education and consultation.
  5. Assist in training and supervising volunteers and students.
Problem Solving and Decision Making:
  1. Ensure timely delivery of low vision services to help clients regain independence.
  2. Utilize creative problem-solving skills to address unique client needs.
Leadership and Professional Development:
  1. Stay informed about new technologies and techniques in low vision rehabilitation.
  2. Provide guidance and mentorship to staff and volunteers.
  3. Lead community outreach efforts to raise awareness about vision loss.
Qualifications:
  1. In-depth knowledge of ocular anatomy, low vision rehabilitation, and adaptive technologies.
  2. Proven ability to facilitate group education and training.
  3. Experience working with individuals across all age groups.
  4. Strong decision-making skills and professional judgment.
  5. Organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
