Job Title: Specialist, Low Vision

At Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada, we are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Specialist, Low Vision to join our team. As a Specialist, Low Vision, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality services to individuals with vision loss, empowering them to regain independence and improve their quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive functional low vision assessments to identify individuals' visual needs and develop personalized plans to address them.
  • Teach individuals with partial sight how to maximize their residual vision, using a variety of techniques and strategies.
  • Recommend and train individuals in the use of optical and non-optical aids, ensuring they have the necessary skills to adapt to their vision loss.
  • Provide education and support to individuals and their families, promoting awareness and understanding of vision health and low vision services.
  • Liaise with community-based rehabilitation teams, agencies, schools, and partners to ensure seamless service delivery and coordination.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings to share knowledge and expertise, and contribute to the development of innovative solutions to address complex vision-related challenges.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ocular anatomy, physiology, pathology, and low vision rehabilitation, including optical and non-optical aids, visual skills, and adaptive technology.
  • Ability to facilitate group education and training sessions, using a variety of teaching methods and materials.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals, families, and teams.
  • Self-directed, organized, and excellent attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Eligible for ACVREP certification, with a strong commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing education.
Work Environment:

The Specialist, Low Vision will work in a dynamic and supportive environment, providing services in office centers, individual homes, and the community. The successful candidate will be willing to work flexible hours and travel as required.
