Job Title: Director, Carrier and Vehicle Programs

Reporting to the Executive Director, Driver, Carrier & Vehicle Services, this position plays a critical role in ensuring a safe and efficient transportation system that supports Alberta's economic, social, and environmental vitality.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the department's vehicle standards authority in the operation and development of vehicle safety programs, standards, and branding activities.
  • Review and approve new and innovative commercial vehicle designs for conformance to the department's standards.
  • Administer Alberta's Safety Fitness Certificate (SFC) program in accordance with federal and provincial legislation.
  • Deliver mandatory inspection programs through the licensing of facilities and technicians.
  • Ensure effective delivery of operating authorities for the provincial rail program in Alberta.
  • Contribute to the identification and achievement of Branch business goals and priorities.

This role requires in-depth knowledge of transportation-related statutes and regulations, as well as the ability to identify legislative gaps and understand the policy/legislative process to address them.

The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of all aspects of the National Safety Code standards (16) and how they are implemented in Alberta, as well as a detailed understanding of the vehicle inspection process.
