Child and Youth Programmer Lead

This is a dynamic and challenging role that requires a passionate and dedicated individual to support the delivery of high-quality children and youth programs at various Resource Centre locations throughout the city. The successful candidate will work closely with the Child and Youth Coordinators to implement age-appropriate activities and outings for children and youth aged 1-4, 5-12, and 13-and-up.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in planning, leading, and implementing age-appropriate activities for various children and youth programs.
- Perform outreach to children and youth who may be at-risk, vulnerable, marginalized, and living within the communities we serve.
- Supervise participants and ensure their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
- Ensure the cleanliness of the program space.
- Assist in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports, attendance records, and creating activity reports.
- Distribute communication materials, such as community flyers.
- Prepare healthy snack offerings during programs.
- Mediate and demonstrate conflict resolution as appropriate.
- Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the program.
- Enrollment or completion in post-secondary education, such as Community Development, and/or Child and Youth Care or other Human Services education is an asset.
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification is an asset.
- Food Handlers Certificate is an asset.
- Minimum of two years' related experience implementing children and youth activities is required.
- Related experience preferably in a non-profit/social services setting is desired.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as scheduled.
- Ability to travel to various Resource Centres.
- Knowledge of child development, behaviour management, interpersonal communication, and conflict resolution.
- High energy, enthusiastic, and passionate about working with children.
- Demonstrates creativity and the ability to set limits through kind communication and conflict resolution skills will contribute positively to child and youth programming.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to plan and organize children's programming.
- Demonstration of cultural competency to work effectively and respectfully with people from different cultures and diverse backgrounds, including consideration of how social, historical contexts, and imbalance of power have impacted people's experiences.
- Ability to practice cultural humility; acknowledging oneself as a learner when understanding others' personal experiences, as well as demonstrating a commitment to lifelong learning and self-reflection.
- Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information.
- Demonstrated interest in continuing education in areas of community and social development or early years education/programming and finding inclusive ways to integrate new information into programs and resources for families and communities.
- As a condition of employment, candidates will be subject to a satisfactory criminal records check, including vulnerable sector search and child abuse registry check at the candidate's cost. We only accept checks that have been completed 3 months till present day.
