Job Summary

BC Hydro is seeking a skilled Utility Fleet Mechanic to join our Fleet Services team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and safety of our fleet of 3,000 vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform regular maintenance inspections on heavy equipment, including heavy trucks, pickup trucks, vans, trucks with service bodies, forklifts, self-propelled man lifts, pole trailers, reel trailers, utility trailers, tilt trailers, and highway tractor trailers.
  • Repair deficiencies discovered during maintenance inspections on heavy equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair failures causing machine breakdowns on heavy equipment.
  • Overhaul heavy equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma with courses in English 12, Math 11, and Physics 11/Science & Technology 11 (or equivalents).
  • Completion of an approved Truck and Transport Mechanic (Commercial Transport Vehicle Mechanic), Heavy Mechanical, or Heavy Duty Equipment Technician Level 1, entry-level trades training or foundation program.
  • 2 years of experience in the trade with work performed on heavy vehicles.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and familiarity with industrial tools/equipment.
  • Normal color vision.
  • A valid BC Class 5 driver's license or equivalent; a Class 3 with air endorsement or higher (or willingness to obtain) is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to deal with both internal and external customers.
