Mission

The Fund Operations team plays a crucial role in the operational aspects associated with both the Alternative Investment Funds developed by Wealthsimple and any future fund initiatives.

In this position, your responsibilities will include:
  • Leading the Fund Operations team, overseeing the management of funds established by Wealthsimple Investments Inc. as an Investment Fund Manager.
  • Collaborating directly with Asset Management, Compliance, Product, Trading, Tax, and R&D teams to ensure that Fund Operations processes are streamlined and compliant with industry standards.
  • Directing the team responsible for daily operational tasks that guarantee the accuracy of client and fund records.
  • Establishing funds from an operational standpoint, including setting up fund administration, custody arrangements, transfer agent agreements, and onboarding funds to Fundserv.
  • Consulting with legal partners to review and negotiate contracts with fund administrators and custodians.
  • Advising on the most efficient and sustainable methods for establishing Private Funds and Fund of Funds.
  • Managing the operational aspects of a fund, collaborating with sub-advisors and facilitating direct investments.
  • Working alongside legal and asset management teams on Offering Memorandums and Green Sheets.
  • Utilizing data analytics to identify inefficiencies and propose actionable solutions.
We are looking for candidates who:
  • Possess a minimum of 10 years of experience in fund management or fund administration, with a background in launching new funds and onboarding them with custodians.
  • Have expertise in collaborating with middle office and tax teams to develop policies and procedures for the fund.
  • Are recognized as subject matter experts in fund creation and administration, with experience working alongside custodians, transfer agents, and sub-advisors.
  • Have a deep understanding of Fundserv from both a fund manufacturing and dealer perspective.
  • Are knowledgeable in setting up Private Funds and Fund of Funds, familiar with various liquidity measures.
  • Have experience in producing Offering Memorandums and Green Sheets.
  • Have a track record of operationally wrapping a fund and working with sub-advisors.
  • Have demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Are passionate about technology, particularly in the fintech and alternative investment sectors.
  • Exhibit strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage large datasets under tight deadlines.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and a positive demeanor, thriving in a collaborative environment.
  • Have advanced Excel skills and familiarity with the Google suite.
  • Are naturally inquisitive, eager to investigate discrepancies.
  • Challenge the status quo and approach problems with a mindset geared towards finding solutions.
  • Have completed or are pursuing relevant industry certifications (CAIA, CSC, CFA, CIM, etc.).
  • Have experience or familiarity with SQL, which is a plus.
