Job Title: Payroll & Benefits Administrator

We are seeking a highly skilled Payroll & Benefits Administrator to join our team at Trotter & Morton Group of Companies. As a key member of our HR department, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll and benefits for our employees.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process new hires, employee terminations, and employee status changes for Canadian and US employees
  • Prepare and verify employee pay statements in a timely manner
  • Act as an internal resource for employee and staff inquiries regarding payroll matters
  • Enter employee time accurately and timely
  • Compile and process payroll data, including garnishments, sick pay, vacation time, insurance, taxable benefits, and other deductions
  • Issue annual T4 forms and record of employment (ROE) in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure pay and personnel records are accurate and up-to-date
  • Maintain accuracy of payroll information and documentation
  • Prepare remittances for RRSP, Open Circle Hour Bank Benefits, Sunlife, and other benefits
  • Reconcile account balances, including WCB and RRSP
  • Administer employee benefit programs
  • Maintain files and records in written and electronic formats for compliance and audit purposes
  • Stay current with new and revised payroll regulations and legislation
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Ensure strict confidentiality and privacy of employee and company records
Requirements:
  • Ability to adapt and learn new software, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Microsoft Excel skills
  • Knowledge of audits, income tax forms, health benefit programs, sick pay, short-term and long-term disability, union and non-union payroll
  • Professional, approachable, and customer-service oriented
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
  • Attention to detail and high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to prioritize workloads and utilize planning and time management skills to meet deadlines
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to understand issues from both employee and employer perspectives and assess risk
Education and Experience:
  • Completion of or working towards PCP - Payroll Compliance Practitioner certification from the Canadian Payroll Association is an asset
  • Completion of Grade 12 Diploma or GED
  • Experience with Paylocity, Sage, or Vista/Viewpoint is an asset
  • Accounting experience is considered an asset
