Job Title: FireSmart Coordinator

Seabird Island Band is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated FireSmart Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our Emergency Preparedness department, you will play a critical role in coordinating and implementing the FireSmart program within our community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct home assessments and provide recommendations for wildfire risk mitigation.
  • Organize and execute community events, workshops, and seminars to promote FireSmart principles.
  • Partner with local organizations and schools to enhance program reach and impact.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community leaders and stakeholders.
  • Provide educational sessions and one-on-one consultations to community members.
  • Oversee mitigation projects and allocate resources as needed.
Requirements:
  • WSPP-115 and S-100 certificates are considered assets.
  • First Aid Level 1 and OHS certificates are an asset.
  • FireSmart training is considered an asset.
  • Indigenous candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Experience working with First Nations communities and knowledge of Seabird Island's culture and traditions is an asset.
Cultural Competency:
  • Understanding of First Nations cultures, traditions, and contemporary issues affecting First Nations people.
  • Experience working within Indigenous communities and applying culturally safe practices.
  • Understanding of intergenerational trauma and its impacts on Indigenous peoples and communities.
Working Conditions:
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and perform both fieldwork and office work.
  • Initial and ongoing commitment to the values and guidelines of Sq'ewqel (Seabird Island Band).
