Home Care Support Specialist in Pickering

Role Overview:

As a Home Care Support Specialist, you will implement individualized care plans designed to promote the autonomy of our clients. Your responsibilities will encompass assisting with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, grooming, and physical activity.

The clients receiving care are primarily seniors wishing to maintain their independence at home, although you may also assist younger individuals. Care is delivered in shifts of 3 hours or more, and travel to multiple locations may be necessary throughout your workday.

Note: Hours are not guaranteed and are offered on a casual, as-needed basis.

Compensation: $21.93 per hour

Position Type:

  • Casual
  • Opportunity for full-time hours
  • Availability for a minimum of 10 hours per week is required

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing compassionate care to clients in their homes.
  • Assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal hygiene and basic care.
  • Monitoring and reporting any changes in the client's condition to the Concierge and Director of Operations.
  • Supporting clients with additional tasks such as meal preparation, laundry, and light housekeeping.
  • Engaging clients in customized activities.
  • Accompanying seniors to appointments or grocery shopping (transportation will be arranged).

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a recognized Personal Support Worker program, Health Care Aide Program, or Internationally Educated Nurse.
  • Certification in Level 1 First Aid, CPR / AED.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Capability to walk, sit, and stand for extended periods.
  • Proficiency in bending, reaching, and lifting.
  • Ability to carry and transport items of various sizes up to 25 lbs.
  • Recent experience in geriatrics, long-term care, or home services is essential.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to engage with and support seniors.
  • Excellent communication skills, resilience, and flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues independently.
  • Commitment to maintaining client confidentiality.
  • Ownership of a smartphone.
  • Valid G class driver's license and automobile insurance.
  • Familiarity with resources in the retirement industry is advantageous.
  • Availability for a minimum of 10 hours per week is required.
