Home Care Support Specialist in Pickering

About the Role:

As a Home Care Support Specialist, you will implement individualized care plans designed to promote the autonomy of our clients.
Your responsibilities will encompass assisting with daily living activities, which may include personal hygiene, grooming, and physical activity.

The clients receiving care are primarily seniors who wish to maintain their independence at home.
Care may also extend to younger adults and children.
Shifts typically last for 3 hours or more, and you may need to travel to multiple locations throughout your workday.

Hours are not guaranteed and are based on casual availability.

Compensation: $21.93 per hour

Position Type:

  • Casual
  • Opportunity for full-time hours
  • Availability for a minimum of 10 hours per week is required

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing care to clients in their residences.
  • Assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal hygiene and basic care.
  • Monitoring and reporting any changes in the client's condition to the Concierge and Director of Operations.
  • Supporting clients with additional tasks such as meal preparation, laundry, changing bed linens, and light housekeeping.
  • Engaging clients in customized activities.
  • Accompanying seniors to appointments or grocery shopping (transportation will be arranged).

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a recognized Personal Support Worker program, Health Care Aide Program, or Internationally Educated Nurse.
  • Level 1 First Aid and CPR/AED certification.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Capacity to walk, sit, and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, reach, and lift.
  • Capability to carry and transport items of various sizes up to 25 lbs.
  • Recent experience in geriatrics, long-term care, or home services is essential.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to engage with and support seniors.
  • Excellent communication skills, resilience, and flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to independently resolve sensitive issues.
  • Commitment to maintaining client confidentiality.
  • Ownership of a smartphone.
  • Valid G class driver's license and automobile insurance.
  • Familiarity with resources in the retirement industry is an asset.
  • Availability for a minimum of 10 hours per week is required.
