Job Title: Part Time Day Program Instructor

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Part Time Day Program Instructor to join our team at The Salvation Army. As a key member of our program, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as a role model and advocate for individuals with developmental disabilities, promoting their independence and self-advocacy.
  • Foster social skills, life skills, and community participation through individualized support and programming.
  • Develop and implement Individual Support Plans (ISPs) to meet the unique needs of each participant.
  • Provide teaching and support to Enrichment Program participants, promoting learning and growth.
  • Document and maintain accurate records, including data collection and medication administration.
  • Administer medication as required, ensuring the safety and well-being of participants.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, healthcare professionals, and community stakeholders to provide comprehensive support.
  • Participate in program planning, staff development, and training to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements:
  • Completed 2-3 years Developmental Services Worker (DSW) Diploma or equivalent degree/diploma.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and email.
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and a current copy of a Driver's abstract.
  • Ability to be certified in Standard First Aid/CPR and NCI.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum 6 months to 1-year experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges.
  • Experience with implementing and updating ISPs.
  • Medication administration experience preferred.
  • Training and/or experience in personal care, ambulates, mobilizers, transfers, and community outreach.
Working Conditions:
  • Exposure to dirt, bodily fluids, and bodily waste.
  • Noisy environments.
  • Dealing with angry and abusive individuals.
  • Handling garbage and odors.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs. and apply effective body mechanics.
