Associate Physician

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Associate Physician to join our Neurology Department at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a key member of our team, you will provide medical care under the supervision of a fully licensed physician and work closely with our experienced healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional patient care.
Clinical Responsibilities- Function as a member of the Neurology team, making regular rounds with supervising staff, fellows, and residents on the wards, emergency department, and ICU as required.
- Work with attending staff, nurses, pharmacists, dieticians, social workers, physiotherapists, physician house staff, and other members of the healthcare team in the development and delivery of the overall patient care program.
- Communicate with patients, families, referring and family physicians concerning patient management plans.
- Perform and document admission history and physical examinations, progress notes, discharge summaries, death certificates, medication reconciliations, etc.
- Manage the day-to-day care of patients, including writing medical orders on charts and consultations of other services and responding to emergencies in hospital, in consultation with attending staff.
- Conduct assessments of patients in the emergency room and in-house patient consultations to Neurology, including the Neurology assessment of the trauma patient.
- Perform procedures within the scope of demonstrated competence, with full training and competence established and signed off by the Department Head or designate.
- Participate in Continuing Professional Development (educational sessions, tumor boards, and rounds) of at least 50 hours per year.
- Interact with and orientate clinical clerks and residents, new to the Neurology Service.
- Participate in on-call responsibilities of the service.
We are looking for a highly skilled and dedicated Associate Physician who meets the following requirements:
- Must meet the requirements to obtain an Associate Physician License from The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.
- CMPA coverage required.
- ACLS certification required.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
- Must be able to promote and maintain good interpersonal skills.
- Completion of the equivalence of a rotating internship and postgraduate training and experience in Neurosurgery are considered assets.
- Physical demand - Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and perform duties as outlined above.
- Mental and Visual demand – High; must be able to deal with stressful situations.
- Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred.
This is a permanent, full-time position, 96 hours bi-weekly.
