Position Overview:

The Senior Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) – Level 3 plays a crucial role in ensuring the operational efficiency of machinery by overseeing the training of new personnel in effective troubleshooting and repair techniques. This position is also responsible for the strategic planning and execution of preventive maintenance tasks within the maintenance team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough preventive maintenance inspections and troubleshooting repairs across all shifts, ensuring effective communication of equipment performance for smooth transitions between shifts.
  • Mentor and train new employees on preventive maintenance protocols and troubleshooting techniques, fostering collaboration with both internal and external OEM teams.
  • Prepare and coordinate technical documentation for training programs related to new and existing equipment, emphasizing safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Manage spare parts inventory effectively, aligning maintenance schedules with inventory levels to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Analyze machinery failures and propose enhancements to preventive maintenance practices to boost equipment reliability.
  • Communicate best practices in preventive maintenance to colleagues, operators, and management, while suggesting continuous improvement initiatives for equipment longevity.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment by prioritizing departmental workflows to meet management, quality, and production goals.
  • Assess the frequency of preventive maintenance activities to align with customer demands and equipment requirements.
  • Ensure ongoing communication among mechanics to drive improvements in cost management and equipment performance, ultimately producing high-quality products.
  • Oversee equipment installations and removals, adhering to safe rigging protocols.
  • Adjust and calibrate machinery to meet optimal specifications.
  • Exhibit strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Undertake additional facility-related responsibilities as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience as a mechanic millwright or in a similar role within the ophthalmic or related industry, including experience in training new hires.
  • Post-secondary education in machinery repair, millwrighting, engineering, or a related field.
  • Possession of a 433A Industrial Mechanic Millwright license or equivalent is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, and electronics in automated systems.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, electrical/hydraulic schematics, and ladder logic diagrams to understand equipment operations.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Windows 10, Microsoft Office, and SAP.
  • Capable of engaging with various levels of personnel and working within cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in automation integration and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Highly motivated team player with a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Valid G driver's license in Ontario with a clean driving record or the ability to obtain a Canadian driver's license within 6 months of employment.

The compensation for this position ranges from $32 to $40 per hour, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and skill sets, translating to an annual salary of $66,560 to $83,200 based on a 40-hour work week.
