Position Overview:

The De Beers Group of Companies is seeking a dedicated and dynamic individual to become part of the Mining division at our operational site. This permanent role involves a two-week on and two-week off rotation, reporting directly to the Drill & Blast Supervisor. The primary responsibility of the Explosive Specialist is to ensure the safe and efficient loading, stemming, tying-in, and detonation of large diameter blast-hole patterns. We are looking for a candidate who prioritizes safety and aims for zero harm in all operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing and managing all activities related to blast patterns with a focus on safety and efficiency;
  • Conducting field assessments to ascertain the type and quantity of explosives necessary;
  • Addressing objectives, assumptions, needs, and outcomes related to open pit drilling and blasting;
  • Collaborating with various teams within the open pit environment;
  • Providing mentorship to Blaster assistants;
  • Coordinating tasks across multiple departments (Geology, Mine Operations, etc.);
  • Adhering to all regulations concerning explosives and site protocols;
  • Exhibiting leadership qualities for all team members, particularly regarding safety practices.

Reporting Structure:

This role is situated within the Mine Operations department and is site-based, with a rotation of 14 days on and 14 days off. It is a permanent position.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a Certified Blaster designation with a valid NWT Blasting Certificate;
  • A minimum of five to eight years of experience in the mining sector, ideally in open pit operations;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to Safety, Health, and Environmental standards;
  • Experience in remote mining sites and cross-cultural work settings.
