The De Beers Group of Companies is seeking a highly skilled Explosives Specialist to join the Mining department at the Gahcho Kué Mine Site in the Northwest Territories. Reporting to the Drill & Blast Supervisor, this permanent position involves safely and effectively loading, stemming, tying-in, and shooting large diameter blast-hole patterns.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring and directing all activities on blast patterns in a safe and effective manner;
  • Conducting field tests to determine type and quantity of explosives required;
  • Addressing open pit drill and blast objectives, assumptions, needs, and results;
  • Working with various teams in the open pit;
  • Mentoring Blaster helpers;
  • Coordinating activities across a variety of groups (Geology, Mine Operations etc);
  • Following all explosives regulations and site procedures;
  • Providing leadership for all team members, especially on the safety front.

Reporting to the Drill & Blast Supervisor, this role is based in the Mine Operations department. This is a site-based position with a 14 days in/14 days out rotation and is a permanent position.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Blaster with NWT Blasting Certificate;
  • Five to eight years of experience in mining industry, preferably with operations in an open pit;
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written;
  • Ability to work well at a fast pace;
  • Proven commitment to Safety, Health and Environmental standards; and
  • Experience working at a remote mining site and in a cross-cultural work environment.
