Role Responsibilities
The Registered Nurse (RN) reports directly to the Director of Care and/or their designate, serving as a role model and team leader who oversees and coordinates the activities of those providing direct care to residents. The RN is responsible for executing duties and monitoring departmental operations in accordance with established standards, regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure holistic quality care while upholding the dignity and respect of residents.
Key Duties Include:
- Engaging as a collaborative team member, fostering professional relationships that enhance the organizational culture and mission.
- Assessing residents' needs and implementing individualized, resident-centered care plans.
- Supporting LPNs in reviewing and updating care plans as necessary, providing clinical decision-making support and assessments to assist the care team daily.
- Administering medications and treatments in line with established standards, regulations, and policies.
- Managing community wound care, assisting LPNs with assessments, treatments, and documentation, and facilitating referrals to specialists as needed.
- Delivering direct care to residents as required and collaborating with other disciplines and departments to ensure quality-focused care.
- Communicating with physicians, community agency representatives, families, visitors, and volunteers.
- Assisting with the move-in process, collaborating with team members, and adhering to community policies and protocols.
- Participating in Care Conferences in the absence of the Director of Care or designate.
- Ensuring residents' rights are upheld and maintaining a holistic wellness philosophy.
- Acting as First Aid attendant when on duty and ensuring all injured staff complete necessary documentation.
- Maintaining a safe environment for residents, families, and staff through accident prevention, knowledge of emergency procedures, and adherence to infection control protocols.
- Coordinating and supervising care staff, directing their work, and assigning duties to ensure resident-focused care is delivered.
- Providing clinical guidance to community care staff in the absence of the Director of Care or designate.
- Fulfilling clinical on-call responsibilities as required.
- Conducting community audits and compiling data for submission to the Director of Care or designate.
- Participating in the orientation of new employees.
- Providing educational resources and guidance on procedures to clinical staff and demonstrating techniques.
- Contributing informed input into staff evaluations while supporting LPNs in mentoring HCA staff.
- Actively engaging in the orientation of new staff, community programs, meetings, committees, and educational in-services.
- Maintaining both paper and electronic documentation in accordance with established standards, ensuring confidentiality is upheld.
- Performing other related duties as necessary.
- Graduate of an accredited Nursing program with a current license from the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as an RN.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing is an asset.
- Valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 certification and CPR.
- Successful completion of annual Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) competency testing.
- Previous experience in a long-term care setting is an asset.
- All successful candidates must pass a vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check in accordance with Provincial guidelines.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English, with the ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
- Computer skills, including the ability to navigate basic programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Physical ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift, and carry up to 25 lbs, and work with cleaning agents and equipment.
