Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the management of construction projects with an emphasis on lighting, plumbing fixtures, and mechanical/electrical upgrades.
  • Assess resource requirements to meet project timelines and monitor workforce levels to ensure adherence to the construction plan.
  • Manage changes in project scope, ensuring all modifications are documented and approved before work commences. Actively contribute to the development of safety protocols and site security measures.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and subcontractors.
  • Engage with local contracting communities and industry organizations, fostering connections with subcontractors.
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction throughout project execution.
  • Deliver projects accurately, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Maintain profitability targets and ensure positive cash flow for assigned projects.
  • Collaborate with the Project Delivery Manager under general supervision.
  • Availability for on-site work at least two days bi-weekly is required, with potential for increased on-site presence.

Execution Strategy

  • Conduct cost estimation, project scheduling, and management for assigned projects.
  • Utilize resource planning techniques to align project scope with customer expectations, maximizing team productivity.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, ensuring activities are executed as planned.
  • Ensure compliance with specifications, local regulations, and construction best practices during project execution.
  • Review design scopes for constructability and provide recommendations for improvements. Actively seek additional work through change orders.
  • Interpret contract terms and conditions, escalating issues to the Project Delivery Manager or Director as necessary.
  • Monitor project productivity and costs, recommending adjustments to maintain efficiency and profitability.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and team members, ensuring subcontractors understand project expectations.
  • Oversee site safety and security, ensuring safe execution of construction activities in line with project specifications and budget.
  • Ensure compliance with document control requirements as per contract specifications and company standards.
  • Assist in evaluating contractual scope and the impact of client directives, preparing cost estimates and proposals as needed.
  • Coordinate training requirements for customers.
  • Support the Project Delivery Manager and Sales in project development as required, reviewing schedules and procurement strategies.
  • Travel may be necessary for projects outside the assigned area.
  • Develop and implement a Project Execution Plan for each project, establishing customer touchpoints to gather feedback on satisfaction.
  • Provide regular updates on project status to Area Leadership and prepare detailed forecasts of planned work.
  • Foster positive relationships with subcontractors, team members, and other partners.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Project/Construction Management or equivalent experience. A minimum of six years of project management experience in the construction sector.
  • Comprehensive understanding of commercial contract terms, complex structures, financial management, and negotiation skills.
  • Experience managing multi-discipline projects as a primary contractor.
  • Proven track record in budget development, maintenance, and revenue forecasting.
  • Strong project management competencies.
  • Ability to manage projects in the conceptual design phase and collaborate with engineering teams.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, project management software, and general business applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively.
  • Adaptable and flexible, capable of thriving in a matrix organizational structure.
  • Eligibility to meet Government of Canada criteria for Reliability Clearance.

Preferred

  • BASc Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, or Civil Engineering.
  • Experience in construction management for energy retrofit projects.
  • PMP, LEED certification, or PEng designation.
  • Experience managing diverse projects ranging from $1M to $20M.
  • Familiarity with schedule development and WBS creation.
  • Experience in estimation is advantageous.
