Job Title: Green Schools Engagement Officer

Location: Halifax Based

Position Type: Entry level ~35 hours/week, term position

Overview: We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team as a Green Schools Engagement Officer. This entry-level position is dedicated to educating students about energy efficiency and environmental sustainability through interactive presentations delivered on behalf of Efficiency Nova Scotia in educational institutions across the province. The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding and passion for environmental issues and be comfortable with public speaking.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct engaging presentations on energy efficiency and sustainable practices for students of various age groups.
  • Work collaboratively with educators and school administrators to arrange and coordinate in-person and virtual presentations.
  • Travel to educational institutions throughout the province to deliver presentations, ensuring a professional and impactful experience.
  • Facilitate discussions and answer questions from students to enhance their understanding of energy conservation and environmental responsibility.
  • Raise awareness through various channels about our organization's initiatives and programs aimed at fostering a culture of sustainability within educational settings.
  • Gather feedback and assess the effectiveness of presentations to continually refine educational content and delivery methods.

Qualifications:

  • Fluency in English, with exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in French is considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of environmental issues and energy efficiency principles, acquired through formal education or self-study.
  • Experience in delivering educational presentations or workshops.
  • Ability to engage and motivate students of all ages through dynamic presentations and interactive activities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the capacity to manage time effectively to meet travel and presentation commitments.
  • Willingness to travel within the province, occasionally requiring overnight stays.
  • A genuine passion for environmental sustainability and a commitment to promoting eco-friendly practices among youth.
  • Possession of a valid Nova Scotia Driver's License and access to a safe and reliable vehicle.
  • A criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector check, will be required prior to working in educational settings.

What We Offer:

  • This is a full-time (~35 hours/week) term position.
  • The salary for this position is to be determined, but mileage reimbursement for business travel is included.
