| Role Overview

Reporting to the Security Operations Manager, you will be instrumental in developing and implementing the comprehensive cybersecurity strategy while conducting continuous analysis in collaboration with internal stakeholders. Your role will involve advising on cybersecurity matters that could affect Payments Canada's systems and the broader payment infrastructure. You will cultivate strong partnerships with various agencies and organizations while staying attuned to emerging cyber trends and practices.

| Key Responsibilities

Your primary duties will include:

Establishing and implementing Payments Canada's cybersecurity framework:

  • Enhancing methodologies for detection engineering, cyber threat analysis, and data management;
  • Collaborating with IT and business risk stakeholders to develop requirements, strategies, and robust frameworks to strengthen the cybersecurity framework;
  • Offering guidance, leadership, and training on security initiatives to support business risk stakeholders in integrating security management processes;
  • Providing advisory services to IT and business sectors, assisting in the formulation and review of organizational security policies to bolster internal controls (access management, contingency planning, security awareness, intrusion detection, patch management, antivirus measures, etc.);
  • Mentoring junior and intermediate analysts and leading collaborative analysis sessions.

Continuous Cyber Surveillance and Analysis:

  • Conducting advanced cyber intrusion detection and forensic analysis, recommending areas for further investigation and remediation;
  • Preparing reports and briefing documents to assist the Security Manager and Chief Information Security Officer in fostering trusted relationships with financial institutions, regulatory bodies, government agencies, and other relevant organizations;
  • Developing security orchestration and automating security tools through scripting and API integration;
  • Collaborating with Payments Canada member financial institutions to address cybersecurity challenges or policy breaches.

| Minimum Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience in computer science, information systems, or related fields;
  • At least five (5) years of experience in information security, risk management, or related roles;
  • Experience in security operations, incident response, and threat analysis;
  • Proficiency in Python and PowerShell scripting;
  • Familiarity with cyber information sharing and analysis networks;
  • Willingness to work outside of standard hours as required;
  • Availability for on-call rotation;
  • Occasional travel may be necessary;
  • Eligibility for Government of Canada Level II Secret Clearance.

| Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the secure procurement of security technologies and architecture;
  • Understanding of federal government priorities regarding financial sector policy;
  • Awareness of international issues affecting the financial services sector;
  • Familiarity with the Criminal Code of Canada as it pertains to cybersecurity;
  • Knowledge of the Canadian financial services landscape;
  • Bilingualism in English and French is an asset.
