Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada CPKC Full time

Company Overview:

Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) is a premier North American railway, facilitating the movement of essential goods across a vast network. With a commitment to economic growth and operational excellence, CPKC is dedicated to connecting Canada, the U.S., and Mexico, creating diverse career opportunities within our expansive transnational framework.

Position Purpose:

The Leadership Management Trainee Mechanical (LMT-M) program is designed to equip new trainees with the leadership skills, industry insights, and technical expertise necessary to thrive as mechanical supervisors within CPKC's extensive operations. This program provides a robust foundation in railway operations, complemented by a supportive network and essential skills to maintain the reliability of our rail infrastructure.

This comprehensive seven-month training initiative includes a blend of classroom learning, online modules, workshops, and hands-on experience. Trainees will participate in an 11-week manager conductor training course, followed by 16 weeks focused on mastering the competencies required for overseeing mechanical operations, including mechanical bad order processes, cycle times, and productivity metrics. Training will encompass leadership development, safety protocols, and the fundamentals of CPKC's precision scheduled railroading model, along with exposure to key departments across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Rapidly acquire and apply knowledge of mechanical bad order processes, cycle time, dwell time, and productivity metrics to effectively manage mechanical operations teams.
  • Act as a safety advocate by engaging in active observations and discussions regarding compliance with safety regulations, implementing preventative measures through staff involvement.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership qualities to guide mechanical operations personnel.
  • Exemplify the core competencies of successful leadership: drive for results, inspire others, innovate, and lead by example.
  • Prioritize tasks with a sense of urgency, making decisions aligned with CPKC's values of accountability, diversity, and pride, as well as its foundational principles: operate safely, develop talent, manage costs, optimize resources, and deliver exceptional service.
  • Achieve management train conductor certification, with deployment contingent upon successful qualification as business needs dictate; failure to qualify will result in removal from the program.
  • Complete all phases of the LMT program, meeting minimum standards on both written and practical assessments, while submitting all assignments and projects on time.
  • Exhibit proficiency in mechanical operations to facilitate career advancement opportunities.
Qualifications:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; candidates with post-secondary education in a technical field are preferred.
  • 1-2 years of supervisory experience in sectors such as transportation, construction, logistics, oil and gas, military, airlines, mining, or manufacturing is advantageous.
  • Previous railway experience in a mechanical foreman capacity is a plus.
  • A valid driver's license is mandatory.
  • Willingness to travel extensively; training may occur across various locations.
  • Preference will be given to candidates open to relocation within CPKC's network.
  • Availability to work 24/7 shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays is essential.
  • Ability to operate in diverse weather conditions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary for effectively conveying CPKC policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Capability to build trust and credibility in new environments, fostering strong relationships across the organization.
  • Demonstrated time management skills and excellent communication abilities.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and work conditions are crucial.
  • A leadership presence with a commitment to professional growth and advancement.
Benefits Offered:
  • Flexible and competitive benefits package.
  • Robust company pension plan.
  • Employee Share Purchase Plan.
  • Performance Incentive Program.
  • Annual Fitness Subsidy.
  • Part-time Studies Program.
