Position Overview:
The City of Red Deer is seeking to fill a permanent full-time role for a Safety and Compliance HR Advisor. This position is pivotal in ensuring a secure working environment for all employees within the organization. The Safety and Compliance HR Advisor will coordinate and enhance various departmental safety initiatives, ensuring alignment with corporate safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert consultation on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) to various departments, ensuring adherence to current legislation.
- Assist in the development and refinement of departmental policies and procedures related to safety.
- Analyze reported incidents to identify trends and recommend necessary corrective actions.
- Offer guidance and support to Health and Safety Committees.
- Contribute to the maintenance of an effective Health and Safety Management System across the City.
Qualifications:
- Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
- Eligibility for Registration as a Certified Registered Safety Professional is preferred.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a safety-focused role, with expertise in safety committee operations and policy development.
- Experience in an electrical utility or construction environment with a strong emphasis on safety is advantageous.
- Certified Peer Auditor Certification with AMHSA.
- Proficient in conducting hazard assessments, incident investigations, and root cause analysis.
- Construction experience is considered an asset.
- Valid Alberta Driver's License is required.
- Comprehensive understanding of provincial Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to convert data into management information.
- Strong organizational capabilities.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with field personnel.
- Demonstrated experience in working independently with minimal supervision.
- Proficient computer skills.
Union Affiliation:
Represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 417.
Compensation:
Hourly wage ranges from $42.94 to $45.20.
Work Schedule:
80 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work as necessary for emergencies.
