Role Overview
The Vice President of Data Analytics will spearhead the vision for strategic and quantitative analysis within a dynamic team focused on innovative research. This role is pivotal in delivering profound insights and actionable metrics in the intricate landscape of market and dealer firm regulation.
Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Market Regulation, this senior leadership position is responsible for guiding the expanding analytics team. The ideal candidate will be tasked with proactively analyzing and interpreting capital market activities, providing quantitative assessments of regulatory impacts and the overall health of the markets, while supporting the organization's strategic objectives.
Stonewood Group's strategic initiatives involve leveraging collected market and dealer firm data to identify trends, detect emerging risks, and inform regulatory strategies. The role offers the chance to engage in high-impact research that will influence the organization's direction and stimulate both national and international discussions, while also focusing on enhancing data and analytical capabilities to fulfill its regulatory mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and planning of strategic and quantitative analyses to fulfill the organization's mission and objectives;
- Collaborate with industry experts to utilize Stonewood's unique data assets for groundbreaking research and to elevate the organization's standing;
- Formulate and execute strategies to cultivate and lead a team of specialists in capital markets, quantitative analysis, and data science;
- Oversee the analytics mandate of the organization, including:
- Analysis of market and dealer firm trends;
- Evaluating the impact and effectiveness of regulatory changes within the Canadian market;
- Supporting the organization's strategic initiatives;
- Provide expert guidance and thought leadership as a representative of the organization;
- Contribute to the overall management and strategic direction of the organization;
- Maintain the annual marketing strategy and budget;
- Integrate innovation with strong computational and statistical skills, demonstrating leadership and mentoring capabilities;
- Possess advanced knowledge of programming and quantitative methodologies, analytics platforms, and programming languages;
- Experience in machine learning and artificial intelligence is highly desirable;
- Establish and enforce standards for data collection and analysis;
- Demonstrate strong management experience, particularly in leading national teams;
- Build relationships and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders;
- Exhibit excellent oral, written, and presentation skills for both business and technical audiences;
- Experience in research publication and public presentations is an asset;
- Provide ongoing analysis of trends and changes in capital markets and the financial sector that may influence Canadian marketplaces;
- Possess experience in statistical methods, with a preference for machine learning expertise;
- Familiarity with equity and debt trading, along with knowledge of trading strategies, is a definite advantage.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related disciplines;
- A minimum of 3 years in senior management roles with proven experience in managing national teams;
- In-depth understanding of capital markets and the securities industry, including trading systems and market activities.
