Job Title: Housing Access Team Lead

WoodGreen Community Services is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Housing Access Team Lead to join our team. As a key member of our Housing and Homelessness Services department, you will play a critical role in supporting individuals and families in accessing affordable housing and preventing homelessness.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of housing access workers in supporting clients, families, and community partners in accessing housing applications for independent living and support units.
  • Collaborate with referral agencies, such as PATH, Access Point, and Coordinated Access, to facilitate housing access for applicants.
  • Coordinate intakes with staff, applicants, and community partners to ensure completeness of applications and supporting documentation.
  • Determine eligibility of referrals, confirm housing for eligible applicants, and provide information on alternative programs.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing communication with WCH Housing Unit, housing staff, and external housing providers/partners to ensure applications are properly submitted and applicants are being contacted.
  • Assist in organizing team and unit meetings, and participate in regular supervisory sessions with the Manager.
  • Coach staff and participants to enhance their skills in accessing relevant resources and supports for long-term tenancy.
  • Ensure referral of applicants to translation services and other culturally appropriate services.
  • Monitor trends and report on data related to homelessness to the Manager.
  • Prioritize vacant units for applicable waitlists based on established guidelines and procedures.
  • Provide timely and accurate internal/external reporting, including input to compliance reporting to the Manager.
  • Ensure tenant record keeping and administrative procedures are effectively maintained.
  • Gather and document program statistics and narrative reports, identifying program trends/issues.
  • Support staff in undertaking training and professional development to improve service delivery.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Social Work or related undergraduate degree.
  • 2+ years of experience in social services supporting individuals with a history of street involvement and/or low income.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Understanding of the Residential Tenancies Act, the Housing Services Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
  • Experience working with women who may have experienced violence, addictions, abuse, and/or homelessness.
  • Knowledge of issues faced by newcomers to Canada.
  • Knowledge of client-centered, feminist, and anti-oppressive frameworks.
  • Experience in crisis response and intervention, de-escalation, advocacy, and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources to support low-income individuals, individuals with a history of mental health or addictions, and individuals with a history of trauma.
  • Cultural competency with the ability to communicate clearly with individuals from diverse ethno-cultural backgrounds and levels of abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively or individually, to multi-task, organize, and prioritize efficiently.
  • Strong interview, assessment, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Property management experience (lease administration, rent collection, unit turnover management).
