Network Infrastructure Specialist

Okanagan College is seeking a highly skilled Connectivity Technician to join our IT Services team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for installing and supporting classroom technology, including projectors, screens, whiteboards, video-conferencing technologies, data and voice networks, and telecommunications equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and execute network installations, including studying customer requests, plans, manuals, and technical specifications.
- Install and repair digital communication networks, including installing equipment and handling necessary maintenance tasks.
- Perform jack installations, cross connections, and patch panels related to telecom and audio-visual installations.
- Diagnose and resolve circuit issues and related problems.
- Prepare and maintain documentation to keep records current and equipment labelled.
- Maintain an inventory of spare parts and order equipment, supplies, and materials as required.
- Assess installation sites and prepare necessary installation diagrams for renovations and projects.
- Monitor contractor cabling work for adherence to cabling standards.
- Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to network and telephone equipment.
- Assist in the administration of voice systems account management.
- Comply with all safety regulations.
- Maintain currency with respect to best practices and industry trends.
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent and graduation from a two-year post-secondary program in a related area.
- Minimum 2 years of related experience.
- Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of network design and voice systems.
- Ability to frequently lift and move equipment of up to 20 kg and occasionally move/lift equipment of more than 20 kg.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Prioritize and organize work effectively.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Excellent customer interaction and communication skills.
