Job Summary

Okanagan College is seeking a highly skilled Connectivity Technician to join our IT Services team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for installing and supporting classroom technology, including projectors, screens, whiteboards, video-conferencing technologies, data and voice networks, and telecommunications equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Plan and execute network installations, including studying customer requests, plans, manuals, and technical specifications.
  2. Install and repair digital communication networks, including installing equipment and handling necessary maintenance tasks.
  3. Perform jack installations, cross connections, and patch panels related to telecom and audio-visual installations.
  4. Diagnose and resolve circuit issues and related problems.
  5. Prepare and maintain documentation to keep records current and equipment labelled.
  6. Maintain an inventory of spare parts and order equipment, supplies, and materials as required.
  7. Assess installation sites and prepare necessary installation diagrams for renovations and projects.
  8. Monitor contractor cabling work for adherence to cabling standards.
  9. Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to network and telephone equipment.
  10. Assist in the administration of voice systems account management.
  11. Comply with all safety regulations.
  12. Maintain currency with respect to best practices and industry trends.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent and graduation from a two-year post-secondary program in a related area.
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of network design and voice systems.
  • Ability to frequently lift and move equipment of up to 20 kg and occasionally move/lift equipment of more than 20 kg.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Prioritize and organize work effectively.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent customer interaction and communication skills.
