Job Summary

Okanagan College is seeking a highly skilled Network Infrastructure Specialist to join our IT Services team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for installing and supporting classroom technology, including projectors, screens, whiteboards, video-conferencing technologies, data and voice networks. You will also assist in the administration of audio-visual and voice system software, and provide training or advice related to audio visual and telecom technologies to other IT, media, and classroom services staff.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Plan network installations through studying customer requests, plans, manuals, and technical specifications.
  2. Install and repair digital communication networks, including installing equipment and handling necessary maintenance tasks.
  3. Perform jack installations, cross connections, patch panels related to telecom and audio visual installations.
  4. Diagnose current circuit issues and work to resolve related problems.
  5. Prepare and maintain all necessary documentation to keep records current and equipment appropriately labelled.
  6. Maintain an inventory of spare parts, including cables, headsets, telephones, and order equipment, supplies, material, tools as required.
  7. Assess installations sites and prepare necessary installation diagrams for renovations and projects.
  8. Monitor contractor cabling work for adherence to cabling standards.
  9. Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to network and telephone equipment.
  10. Assist in the administration of voice systems account management.
  11. Comply with all safety regulations.
  12. Maintain currency with respect to best practices and industry trends by participating in educational opportunities and reviewing current technical technical publications.
Requirements
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent and graduation from a two year post secondary program in a related area.
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience.
  • Strong technical, analytical, problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of network design an asset.
  • Knowledge of voice systems.
  • Ability to frequently lift and move a large variety of equipment of up to 20 kg. and occasionally move/lift equipment of more than 20 kg.
  • This position will, on occasion, have to work in confined spaces.
  • Prioritize and organize work effectively.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent customer interaction skills and communication skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include evenings, weekends and overtime.
