Position Summary:

As a Lead Backend Engineer within our Sportsnet Stats and Data division, you will work closely with various stakeholders to design, develop, and sustain robust backend systems utilizing Golang. This role is crucial for ensuring the efficient integration and timely presentation of sports data across our digital platforms. You will also take on a leadership role, mentoring junior developers and shaping our long-term technical strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Architect and implement scalable backend solutions using Golang.
  2. Guide the technical direction and strategic roadmap of the team.
  3. Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure accurate and efficient processing of sports data.
  4. Provide mentorship and technical guidance to team members.
  5. Establish effective monitoring and alerting systems.
  6. Engage in Agile/Scrum ceremonies for collaborative feature development and delivery.
  7. Support team members through pair programming and code reviews.
  8. Participate in on-call support during significant live events.

Qualifications:

  1. 8+ years of experience in backend development with a focus on API creation.
  2. Expertise in backend programming with Golang.
  3. Familiarity with Ruby on Rails is advantageous.
  4. Experience with AWS infrastructure.
  5. Proficient in relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL.
  6. Knowledge of Elasticsearch is a plus.
  7. Understanding of API development and integration.
  8. Proficient with Git/GitHub for version control.
  9. Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  10. Familiarity with monitoring tools like New Relic or similar.
  11. Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  12. Knowledge of caching strategies and tools such as Redis or similar.
  13. Previous experience in sports statistics or data analytics is beneficial.
  14. A passion for sports and a deep understanding of sports culture is a plus.
  15. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  16. Demonstrated experience as a senior backend developer, preferably in a high-traffic web or mobile application environment.
