Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic individual with strong interpersonal skills to become a vital member of our team as a Senior Support Specialist. This position focuses on delivering crucial transportation and assistance services to elderly individuals within the Fort McKay First Nation community. Responsibilities encompass aiding with daily tasks, engaging in community programs and events, and facilitating the Meals on Wheels initiative. This is a full-time permanent role that may necessitate occasional work beyond standard hours.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide transportation for seniors to run errands, attend appointments, and go shopping
- Ensure safe and punctual travel
- Maintain an impeccable driving record
- Visit seniors in their homes to offer companionship and support
- Assist with daily living activities and respond to immediate needs
- Support community programs and events for seniors
- Help with the setup, execution, and cleanup of events
- Engage with seniors during community gatherings
- Assist in meal preparation and delivery
- Keep accurate records of meal deliveries
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Preferred training in caregiving or a related field
- 1-2 years of experience in support or caregiving roles
- Experience in providing transportation services
- Prior experience in community service
- Familiarity with programs, events, and meal delivery
- Valid Class 5 driver's license
- Successful completion of driving and criminal record checks
- Knowledge of Cree or Dene languages is an asset
- Experience working within Indigenous communities is preferred
