Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lifeguard & Swim Instructor to join our team at the YMCA Greater Toronto. As a Lifeguard & Swim Instructor, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of our members and participants, while also delivering high-quality swim instruction and aquatic programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of members and participants in the pool area, responding to emergencies as trained.
  • Deliver high-quality swim instruction and aquatic programs, adapting to the needs of diverse learners.
  • Set up and maintain pool equipment, ensuring it is safe and in good working order.
  • Conduct regular safety checks of lifesaving equipment and report any malfunctions.
  • Assist with cleaning duties related to the pool and equipment.
  • Maintain current certifications and qualifications as required by the YMCA and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in scheduled programs, meetings, and special events.
  • Collaborate with program staff and volunteers to promote program participation and engagement.

Requirements:

  • Current certifications in National Lifeguard (NL) and Standard First Aid & CPR level C.
  • Current YMCA or Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certification.
  • Previous experience in lifeguarding and swim instruction an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport with members, staff, and volunteers.
  • Flexibility regarding assigned hours of work, including evenings, weekends, and weekdays.
