JOB SUMMARY

The Recreation Therapy Support Specialist plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for residents by designing and executing tailored individual and group activities. These programs are aimed at stimulating and fostering the mental, physical, social, intellectual, and spiritual health of each resident. This position adheres to all organizational policies and procedures while ensuring a safe and healthy environment in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Including but not limited to:

· Assisting in the assessment of new residents to identify their interests, capabilities, and needs to develop suitable programming.

· Facilitating engaging activities tailored for a diverse group of residents within Long-Term Care.

· Collaborating with team members to organize and execute facility-wide events, including those scheduled during evenings and weekends.

· Participating as a member of Lifecare committees as necessary.

· Utilizing the Activity Pro charting system to document resident participation in activities.

· Contributing ideas for the facility-wide calendar while working with assigned resident home areas.

· Assisting in the preparation for Ministry reviews and Accreditation processes.

· Coordinating with students, community organizations, schools, entertainers, and volunteers.

· Committing to ongoing professional development and training.

· Performing other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To be successful in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill each essential duty effectively. The qualifications listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

· Completion of a degree or diploma in Recreation/Leisure Leadership from an accredited community college or university.

· A minimum of 2 years of experience in Long-Term Care settings.

· Proficiency in computer applications such as Point Click Care and Activity Pro is an asset.

· Musical abilities are considered advantageous.

HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Conducting all work in alignment with the policies and procedures of the Lifecare Centre and the Ontario Health & Safety Act relevant to Long-Term Care.

· Attending all mandatory training sessions as per facility policies.
